Cooperstown is truly a fascinating place. Located at the south end of
Otsego Lake in Central New York State, it is at the heart of a splendid
four-season recreational area. All the hospitality of the Lake, nearby
skiing, an endless array of cultural activities, distinctive
architecture, and tightly-knit but friendly villages, coexist here in a
natural setting of exceptional beauty.
We probably weren't the birthplace of baseball. But we are the Home
of Baseball. And we are the birthplace of the Susquehanna, a
wonderful river that winds through New York and Pennsylvania, reaching
the sea via Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. We're not a museum or a baseball
theme park. But we are the home of Glimmerglass Opera, a nationally
renowned company with an astonishing history that began in the seventies
in our High School Auditorium. We have our weaknesses. But we are a
proud community, and hundreds of dedicated people make us thrive, in
business, in education, in agriculture, in medicine, in government, and
in the arts. You'll meet many of them on these web pages.
Whether
your passion is baseball, golf, opera, museums, sailing or antiquing,
you'll have a great time here in Cooperstown. You will find many stones
unturned. The curve of the fields and hills, the color of the leaves,
the shimmer of the water, the shadows and the ghosts, all will conspire
to fill your senses. You will almost feel the spin of the earth.
Stay a little longer and your experience will change. You will think
about the friends you've made and the moments you've shared. And you'll
take back memories of a place just over the horizon that is worlds
apart. That's a promise.
If you run a business or organization in northern Otsego County and
would like information about promoting it on The Cooperstown Network,
we'd love to hear from you.
